British Prime Minister Boris Johnson suffered a setback at his home in Breguet. His younger brother Joe Johnson resigned as a member of the Cabinet and a Conservative Party MP. Trade Minister and Member of Parliament Orpington said he felt trapped between loyalty to the family and the national interest. Because of this, he was forced to take this step.
The resignation of Joe Johnson is a sign of how divided Britain is from membership in the European Union. He said in a statement released on Twitter, ‘In recent weeks I have felt trapped between loyalty to family and national interest. There was no solution to this tension and this is the right time for others to accept my role as MP and Minister.
Joe Johnson said it was an honor to represent Orpington for nine years and make him a minister under three Prime Ministers. He voted to remain in Breguet in 2016, while his brother co-led the campaign to break away from Breguet. Joe Johnson is seen as a politician in Britain with a friendly attitude towards India. He has also lived in India as a journalist for The Financial Times.
